Bookish A to Z Tag

Alright, y’all, now is the big moment: I’m finally doing a tag. Thank you to Lori’s Bookshelf Reads for tagging me in her post!

Today’s tag is a bookish survey, from A to Z! Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea who to tag. So please, if you see this post, and you want to do it, consider yourself tagged! Let me know if you do it in the comments below and I’ll come peruse yours!

AUTHOR YOU’VE READ THE MOST BOOKS FROM:

Probably Ellen Hopkins. My shelf is absolutely littered with the giant YA verse novels. I’ve read 14 out of 16 of her books.

BEST SEQUEL EVER:

I’m immediately going with A Gathering of Shadows. I liked V.E. Schwab’s sequel to A Darker Shade of Magic even more than its predecessor.

CURRENTLY READING:

Yes by Daniel Bryan. It’s a biography of the famous WWE wrestler, and my boyfriend’s been asking me to read it for actual years.

DRINK OF CHOICE WHILE READING:

Iced coffee is life.

E-READER OR PHYSICAL BOOK:

Physical books for life. ARCs and valleys have helped me get into reading more online copies, but it’s still a challenge.

FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU PROBABLY WOULD HAVE ACTUALLY DATED IN HIGH SCHOOL:

Ugh, okay, fair warning, I am so bad with character questions. And also, I didn’t date very much in high school. I don’t know, some bad-boy type probably. Any recommendations for a girl in search of a bookish beau? 😂

GLAD YOU GAVE THIS BOOK A CHANCE:

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab was a slightly recent read spurred by Bookstagram, and it really reintroduced me to fantasy, for which I am grateful.

HIDDEN GEM BOOK:

Lindsay Drager’s books The Sorrow Proper and The Lost Daughter’s Collective were absolutely amazing and nobody knows about them.

IMPORTANT MOMENT IN YOUR READING LIFE:

I remember vividly being on a work trip by myself in Boston in November of last year. I was reading Jac Jemc’s The Grip of It, and I finally decided, after posting book photos to my personal account and being met with super low engagement, to start my Bookstagram.

JUST FINISHED:

A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire. It’s the third book in The Wicked Years.

KINDS OF BOOKS YOU WON’T READ:

I tend to shy away from YA novels, unless they’re really highly recommended. Also, nonfiction novels other than biographies and memoirs are not my speed.

LONGEST BOOK YOU’VE READ:

A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin at 1,179 pages.

MAJOR BOOK HANGOVER BECAUSE OF:

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I seriously just want to dive back into her ancient world of mythological Greece. Which is a damn shame because I’ve already read Circe.

NUMBER OF BOOKCASES YOU OWN:

Two, with one devoting a shelf to vinyl records, plus a book cart.

ONE BOOK YOU HAVE READ MULTIPLE TIMES:

Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone. In addition to actually rereading it at least four times, I’ve probably read the first chapter about fifteen times when I’ve tried to restart it.

PREFERRED PLACE TO READ:

In a coffee shop! Somehow, I get really distracted in my own home.

QUOTE THAT INSPIRES YOU/GIVES YOU ALL THE FEELS FROM A BOOK YOU’VE READ:

From Kurt Vonnegut’s Deadeye Dick:

“To the as-yet-unborn, to all innocent wisps of undifferentiated nothingness: Watch out for life.”

READING REGRET:

I’m very bad at retaining information. Even books I’ve reread, there are still loads of things I forget. This gets in the way every time Harry Potter trivia comes up.

SERIES YOU STARTED AND NEED TO FINISH (ALL BOOKS ARE OUT IN SERIES):

Hmm…I suppose The Wicked Years counts, as I’ve still to finish Out of Oz. Also, I started rereading the House of Night series, just for cheap enjoyment, but I probably won’t finish them. I own the first eight or so, and after that, it just gets out of hand.

THREE OF YOUR ALL-TIME FAVORITE BOOKS:

  1. Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
  2. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
  3. Animal Farm by George Orwell

UNAPOLOGETIC FANGIRL FOR:

Harry Potter. I have an entire collection of licensed replicas from The Noble Collection displayed in my book corner. Fifteen wand replicas, the Mirror of Erised, Bellatrix’s mask and dagger, the Marauder’s Map, Hermione’s bag, and the list honestly goes on.

VERY EXCITED FOR THIS RELEASE MORE THAN ALL THE OTHERS:

I’m really bad at staying up to date with current releases, so both because of that and because of immense impatience, I’m going to say the long-awaited Winds Of Winter from George R. R. Martin.

WORST BOOKISH HABIT:

Buying too many books without reading the ones I have. I have 112 unread books on my shelf. That’s just crazy talk.

X MARKS THE SPOT: START AT THE TOP LEFT OF YOUR SHELF AND PICK THE 27TH BOOK:

Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski.

YOUR LATEST BOOK PURCHASE:

I actually just made my first preorder in years, and I ordered Victoria Schwab’s Vengeful!

ZZZ-SNATCHER BOOK (LAST BOOK THAT KEPT YOU UP WAY LATE):

Is all of them an option? Alright, probably The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I could not put that thing down.

That’s it! My first tag! Please join in on the fun, and let me know in the comments so I can look at your list!
